The human body can be seen as outdated and obsolete, which has led us to use various methods and styles to transform it. In many ways, we see ourselves as masters of our own nature, and the body modifications we incorporate blur the line between the self and the foreign. Influenced by real implants, the body’s physiological processes and anatomy, I transcend the boundaries of our bodies without conforming to prevailing notions of modification.

Do we take our body parts for granted? Who do we become when a body part is taken away from us? Some chose to replace their removed body part with prosthesis and some don’t. Prostheses are somehow permanent. Jewelry has the power to both create identity and the possibility to work as a body extension. In this project I found an interest in jewelry’s potential as an option to implants. I have created a jewelry prosthesis, for someone who has undergone a mastectomy due to breast cancer.

Imagine what jewelry could become, not necessary today but in the near future.
What if there were no boundaries of already explored placement where jewelry can be worn on the body?
What if you could wear invisible jewelry, like implants without modification. What would that jewelry be, and where would you place it?
Today, we all look more or less the same on the inside, but what if you could attach jewelry to your skeleton to make it personal?
The inside of our bodies are left as an untouched canvas for potential jewelry.
In this project, I have explored speculative design within jewelry, by investigating the potential of placing jewelry at the inside of the body and the idea of skeleton adornment. with the starting point from x-ray photos and how they undress your identity. I am curious what jewelry could be, and how it could exist beyond visibility, status and identity.
Could this kind of jewelry become a personal amulet or a lucky charm worn only for yourself?
This exploration resulted in this Spinelet: a piece to decorate your vertebrae, a jewelry that is visible only through an x-ray.
Would you dare to wear it?
2023.
The body of the jewelry, and the person of the wearer. For me that is what's important when you inherit something, and the jewelry in this situation becomes secondary.
Who’s the previous owner of the jewelry?
How was it worn, and where was it placed at the body.
The placement brings back memories.
What’s important for me is that for example my mother or grandmother wore it, and through jewelry I could bring them with me and also have the opportunity to wear it like them.
By casting the jewelry on the body to create jewelry, I want to highlight the affection value of the previous owner. The skin surface, wrinkles and fingerprints adds a personal and intimate connection.
